Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von William F. Smith-Vaniz (geb. 1941), damals von der Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, der den Autoren freundlicherweise seine Cocos-Keeling-Exemplare dieser Art zur Verfügung stellte, die er unabhängig davon als eine unbeschriebene Art bestimmt hat. Verbreitung
Östlicher Indischer Ozean, westlicher Pazifik: Weihnachtsinsel und Cocos-Keeling-Inseln (Indischer Ozean), östlich bis zu den Marshall- und Phoenix-Inseln, nördlich bis zu den Ryukyu-Inseln, südlich bis Queensland (Australien).
