Etymologie
Von Erumie naku, dem lokalen Name für diesen Fisch in Tharangambadi, Indien, dem Typusfundort. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer; Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Madagaskar, Maskarenen (Mauritius) und Persischer Golf, östlich bis Philippinen, nördlich bis Südjapan, südlich bis Perth (Westaustralien) und Queensland (Australien).

Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art wird in einer Reihe von Mehrartenfischereien, einschließlich Grundschleppnetz- und Kiemennetzfischerei, mäßig bis stark befischt und wird häufig als Beifang in der Garnelenfischerei gefangen. Außerdem tragen seine große Maximalgröße (bis > 60 cm) und seine Größe bei der Geschlechtsreife (35-45 cm) wahrscheinlich zu einer hohen Anfälligkeit für Rückgänge infolge von Überfischung bei. Da es sich um eine Flachwasserart handelt, die häufig in Flussmündungen vorkommt, wird sie wahrscheinlich auch durch die Verschlechterung dieser empfindlichen Lebensräume negativ beeinflusst.
