Etymologie
Der Name crypticus ist griechisch für verborgen, diese Art wurde so genannt als Folge der früheren Verwirrung zwischen dieser Art und Pimelodus yuma.
Verbreitung
Cauca River von La Virginia (Department Risaralda) nach La Salvajina Reservoir (Department Cauca).
