Etymologie

Phenax (= Hochstapler); stethus (= kurz für Phallostethus), verwandt mit Phallostethus durch das Vorhandensein eines Toxactiniums (= langer, gebogener Vorsprung am vorderen Ende des Priapiums) und eines schildartigen Pulvinulus (= längliche Masse faserigen Gewebes an der Basis des Toxactiniums), und mit Neostethus und Gulaphallus durch die kurze Afterflosse und den Charakter des weiblichen Abdomens.
