Etymologie
-icus (= gehört zu:) Zarakosee, Griechenland, Typuslokalität, wo ein mythologischer menschenfressender Vogel, Stymphalis, von Herkules erschlagen wurde. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Griechenland: Stymphalia-See auf dem Peloponnes. Populationen aus dem unteren Alfios und Pinios (Peloponnes), aus Ätolien-Akarnien und von der Insel Lefkas werden als konspezifisch betrachtet, was jedoch weitere Untersuchungen erfordert.

Status: Stand 22.12.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Wasserentnahme und -verschmutzung. In Anhang III der Berner Konvention (geschützte Fauna).
