Etymologie
Von pateo (= offen liegen oder exponiert sein), wobei auf die "eklektische Natur" (d. h. morphologisch heterogene) der Mitglieder dieser Gattung Bezug genommen wird; batis (= altgriechisch für einen Plattfisch, der normalerweise auf einen Rochen angewendet wird. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
