Etymologie
Para- (= nahe), bezieht sich auf die Ähnlichkeit mit Ateleopus, von dem sie sich durch die stark reduzierte Größe der Rückenflosse (die nur aus drei kurzen Strahlen besteht) und durch das viel kleinere Maul unterscheidet. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
