Typusfundort: Westlicher Eingang der Basilan-Straße, Philippinen, 7°03'N, 121°48'E (Karte), Tiefe 149 Meter.
Etymologie
Der spezifische Name bezieht sich auf die berühmte Challenger-Expedition von 1872-1876, die den Grundstein für die moderne Ozeanographie und die Entdeckung vieler neuer Meeresorganismen legte, darunter auch diese Art die mehr als ein Jahrhundert nach seiner Entdeckung beschrieben wurde.

Westpazifik: Basilan-Straße, Philippinen (bisher nur vom Holotypus bekannt).
