Etymologie
Bengalischer Name für diesen Aal, vermutlich abgeleitet von boro, einer Reissorte, möglicherweise in Anspielung auf das Vorkommen (und das berichtete Laichen) dieses anadromen Aals in Reisfeldern. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indischer Ozean: Nordostküste Indiens [Exemplare aus anderen Teilen des Indo-Westpazifiks sind wahrscheinlich andere Arten: Ostkap und KwaZulu-Natal (Südafrika), Ostafrika, Seychellen und Madagaskar östlich bis zu den Gesellschaftsinseln (Französisch-Polynesien), nördlich bis Kyushu (Südjapan), südlich bis Nordaustralien].

Status: Stand 21.06.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: In Anbetracht ihres weiten Verbreitungsgebiets ist die Bedrohung im Allgemeinen gering, obwohl sie leicht in Reisfeldern gefangen werden kann und der Verschmutzung durch die Landwirtschaft ausgesetzt ist.
