Lokale BezeichnungStatusValenciennes (1837) beschrieb im selben Band (Vol. 12) von Histoire naturelle des Poissons, Eleotris porocephala, Eleotris ophicephalus und Eleotris madagascariensis. Die ersten beiden Namen wurden häufig verwendet, bis Koumans (1953), der Eleotris ophicephalus als Synonym von Eleotris porocephala behandelte, dem anschließend spätere Autoren folgten. Viele Autoren sind der Ansicht, dass sich diese drei Namen auf die gleiche Art beziehen und verwendeten Ophiocara porocephala als gültigen Namen. Kottelat (2013) betrachtete Günther (1861) als Erstkorrektor, der Eleotris porocephala als Synonym von Eleotris ophicephalus betrachtete und diesem den Vorrang gab. In der Arbeit von Keith & Menesson (2021) schließlich wurde festgestellt, dass sowohl Ophiocara porocephala als auch Ophiocara ophicephalus valide sind: Allerdings stellen manche der Syntypusexemplare eine jeweils andere Art dar. Die Exemplare der in der Aquarienliteratur unter diesen Namen publizierten Arbeiten, lassen sich häufig nicht geografisch zuordnen, was es schwierig macht, sie exakt anzusprechen. |

Etymologie
Poro (= Loch); cephala (= Kopf), bezieht sich auf vier große Poren entlang der Oberkante des Vorkiemendeckels. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indischer Ozean von Südafrika und Mosambik bis Madagaskar, Komoren, Seychellen, Andamanen und Küste des Indischen Ozeans der Sunda-Inseln und Sumatra (Indonesien).
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 25.07.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Über die Bedrohung der Art liegen keine Informationen vor. Lokale Subpopulationen können durch Fischereipraktiken beeinträchtigt werden. Die Art ist anpassungsfähig und in der Lage, in einer Reihe von Lebensräumen zu leben, einschließlich degradierter Gebiete.
