Die Typusart Pomacentrus (Omopomacentrus) acapulcoensis wird spätestens seit Allen & Woods (1980:188) als Stegastes acapulcoensis geführt. Trotzdem war Kottelat (2013:) der Meinung, dass Omopomacentrus ein Synonym von Pomacentrus sei. Tang et al. (2021:285) zeigen, dass die Typusart ein Mitglied von Stegastes sensu stricto ist.
