Etymologie
Micro- (= klein); cephalus (= Kopf), bezieht sich auf den kleineren Kopf im Vergleich zu Muraenolepis orangiensis, seinem damals vermuteten Verwandten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Südlicher Ozean: Scotia Sea (Südgeorgien, Süd-Sandwich, Süd-Orkney und Süd-Shetland-Inseln), nördlicher Teil der Antarktischen Halbinsel und Enderby-Küste.
