Etymologie

Nokomis ist ein indianisches Wort, vermutlich gewählt, weil Girard seinen Klang mochte [Nookomis ist der Name einer Großmutter in traditionellen Geschichten unter den indigenen Ojibwe in Nordamerika und wurde berühmt in Longfellow's 1855er Epos „The Song of Hiawatha“ in dem eine wichtige weibliche Figur namens Nokomis vom Mond fällt].
