Typusfundort: In der Nähe der Insel Mabul, 4°10'50"N, 118°39'35"E (Karte), Borneo, Albatross-Station 5590, Tiefe 310 Faden.
Etymologie
Uni- (= ein); maculatus (= gefleckt), bezieht sich auf einen einzigen Augenfleck auf der Rückenflosse (im Vergleich zu 2-3 bei Neobythites macrops). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Pazifischer Ozean und Korallenmeer: Japan bis Nordwest-Australien und ostwärts bis zu den Fidschi-Inseln in 146-567 m Tiefe.

Status: Stand 23.08.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
