Typusfundort: Nebenfluss des Periyar River, Pampadampara, Kerala, Indien.
Etymologie
Benannt nach dem indischen Bundesstaat Kerala, wo diese Art endemisch ist.
Verbreitung
Indien: Kerala, südliche Western Ghats.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 3.12.2020:VU Vulnerable (gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Lokale Populationen im Eravikulam-Nationalpark sind durch exotische Arten, und in den Flüssen Muvattupuzha und Meenachil durch Verschmutzung durch häusliche und landwirtschaftliche Abfälle bedroht. Im Periyar-Nationalpark sind die lokalen Populationen möglicherweise ebenfalls durch exotische Fischarten bedroht, die bereits den Periyar-See besiedelt haben, und auch durch Umweltverschmutzung.
