Etymologie

Muraena (= lateinisch für Muräne), aber hier wahrscheinlich als allgemeiner Begriff für Aal verwendet; esox (= Hecht), "von denen die vorgeschlagene Gattung in der Form ähnelt", was sich vermutlich auf die langen, schmalen Kiefer mit hervorstehenden Zähnen bezieht.
