Etymologie

Nebulosa (= wolking, bedeckt), bezogen auf 1-3 Reihen mit zahlreichen unregelmäßigen bräunlich-schwarzen Flecken am Körper. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Weit verbreitet im gesamten Indopazifik, von der Ostküste Afrikas über das Rote Meer bis nach Mittelamerika. Häufiger Bewohner von Korallenriffen, sind typischerweise in Flachriffen zu finden, manchmal in Seegrasgebieten, normalerweise in einer Tiefe von weniger als 3 m, jedoch auch aus einer Tiefe von 48 m bekannt; ernährt sich vor allem von Krebstieren, in der Regel von Krabben.

Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art kommt häufig im Aquarienhandel vor. Im Jahr 2001 wurden allein aus den Philippinen über 2200 Exemplare exportiert und diese Zahl ist erst in den letzten zehn Jahren gestiegen (Lieske et al. 1994). Es wird jedoch nicht angenommen, dass die Sammlung für den Aquarienfischhandel eine große Bedrohung darstellt.
