Etymologie
In Erinnerung an den britischen Geologen C. Barrington Brown, der 1870 die "schönsten" Kaieteur-Fälle von Guyana (in der Nähe des Typusfundorts) entdeckte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Südamerika: Guyana, Surinam bis Brasilien.
