Etymologie
Typhlos (= blind); ops (= Auge), vermutlich bezogen auf seine winzigen Augen („oculu minuti“). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Atlantik, von 41°N bis 28°S, einschließlich des Golfs von Mexiko. Im westlichen Südatlantik und vor der zentralen bis südöstlichen brasilianischen Küste, mit einigen Aufzeichnungen innerhalb der äquatorialen östlichen Zone des Landes.

Status: Stand 28.08.2021: DD Data Deficient (ungenügende Datengrundlage)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es gibt keine artspezifischen Bedrohungen, aber sie kann mit Tiefseeschleppnetzen gefangen werden.
