Etymologie

Mitri- (Etymologie nicht erklärt, vielleicht von Mitra (= liturgischer Kopfschmuck von Bischöfen und Äbten)), und –iger (= zu tragen), bezieht sich auf die vertikale Projektion vor dem Kopf [Gilbert 1905 emendierte die Schreibweise von „mitriger“ zu „mitrigera“ ohne Erklärung; die letztere Schreibweise wird derzeit verwendet]. Verbreitung

Im Indopazifik weit verbreitet, auch vor Südafrika, Indien, Australien, den Philippinen, Taiwan, Japan und Hawaii. Bathymetrische Verbreitung: 215–742 m Tiefe.
