Etymologie
Gigas (= Riese), größtes Mitglied der Gattung, erreicht 136,4 mm SL. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Weit verbreitet im Indo-West-Pazifik, in Breitenrichtung von der Ostküste Afrikas bis nach Französisch-Polynesien und in Längsrichtung von Zentraljapan bis Ostaustralien. Zuvor gemeldete Tiefen betrugen 210–650 m (Ho & Shao 2010), und aus australischen Meeren gesammelte Exemplare wurden in Tiefen von 280–500 m gefangen.
