Etymologie
Frenatus (= gezügelt), vermutlich bezogen auf ein Band mit kurzen haarähnlichen Borsten auf jeder Seite des Kopfes der Männchen, vom Maul bis zur Kiemenspalte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Sturisomatichthys frenatus kommt an den pazifischen Abhängen Ecuadors, in den Flüssen Esmeraldas, San Javier, Salidero und Durango sowie im Rio Patia in Kolumbien vor.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 5.12.2019: CR Critically Endangered (vom Aussterben bedroht)
Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art ist von der Veränderung des Lebensraums und der durch den Goldabbau verursachten Verschmutzung sowie von der Umwandlung des natürlichen Lebensraums in Ackerland (Ölpalmenanbau) betroffen.
