Typusfundort: Vor Indien [liegt südwestlich des Laamu-Atolls, Malediven, Indischer Ozean], 1°45'N, 73°03'E (Karte), Tiefe ca. 100 Meter (300 Meter Drahtauslass).

Bezieht sich auf das Verbreitungsgebiet, den indopazifischen Raum.
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Süd- und Ostafrika und Madagaskar bis zu den Hawaii- und Marquesas-Inseln, nördlich bis Südjapan, südlich bis New South Wales (Australien) und Neukaledonien; südöstlicher Pazifik: vor Chile.
