Typusfundort: In der Nähe der Burdwood Bank, Entdeckungsstation WS840, 53°52'S, 61°49'15"W (Karte), südlich der Falklandinseln, Tiefe 368-463 Meter.
Etymologie
Macro- (= groß); ophthalma (= Auge), bezieht sich auf "etwas größeres Auge" im Vergleich zur Nominatform.
Verbreitung
Südlicher Atlantik.
