Etymologie
Trishula bedeutet "Dreizack", und bezieht sich auf die drei schmalen weißen Streifen, die diese Art charakterisieren.
Verbreitung
Derzeit ist Lepadichthys trishula nur von Japan bekannt. Die in der Erstbeschreibung untersuchten Exemplare wurden von folgenden Fundorten gesammelt: der Pazifikküste der Präfektur Kochi (Inseln Kashiwa-jima und Okino-shima), der Westküste der Präfektur Kagoshima (Insel Uji-jima) und den Ryukyu-Inseln (Osumi-Inseln (Insel Tanega-shima), Amami Inseln (Amami-oshima- und Okinoerabu-jima-Inseln), Okinawa-Inseln (Okinawa-, Sesoko- und Miyagi-jima-Inseln) und Kerama-Inseln]. Die Art wurde auch von der Kii-Halbinsel (Präfektur Wakayama) (der bisher nördlichsten Fundort) bestätigt, basierend auf Unterwasserfotos.
