Etymologie
.
Verbreitung
Thorogobius ephippiatus kommt im Nordostatlantik von den nördlichen Britischen Inseln bis nach Makaronesien und im Südwesten Spaniens vor. Sie ist auch aus dem Skagerrak und dem Kattegat (Norwegen und Schweden) bekannt und im gesamten nordwestlichen und nordöstlichen Mittelmeer bis in die Türkei und nach Kreta. Sie wird von 6 bis 40 m Tiefe gefunden, am häufigsten bei etwa 6 bis 15 m. Exemplare aus Madeira kamen in 65-120 m über felsigem Untergrund vor.
