Typen
Holotypus: MBUCV V-17546.
Paratypen: ANSP 161496 (1); MBUCV V-23086 (2), V-23107 (1).
Typusfundort: Río Orinoco Stauwasser hinter einem Sandstrand ca. 0,5 Stunden stromaufwärts von Isla Temblador, 3°04'N, 66°28'W (Karte), Bundesstaat Amazonas, Venezuela.
Etymologie
Von tiger, in Bezug auf die Tiger-ähnliche Zeichnung. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Pseudolithoxus tigris und Pseudolithoxus kelsorum sind allopatrisch verbreitet innerhalb des Hauptkanals des Orinoco zwischen den Stromschnellen von Maipures und Santa Barbara, wobei P. tigris auf den Zusammenfluss der Flüsse Orinoco und Ventuari beschränkt ist.
