Etymologie
Labiatus (= großlippig), bezieht sich auf die tief gefurchten und papillierten Lippen der Typusart Labiatophysa labiata; -physa- (= Suffix für Triplophysa), vorgeschlagen als Untergattung dieser Gattung [wird von einigen Ichthyologen als vollständige Gattung behandelt].
