Typusfundort: Río Orinoco Stauwasser hinter einem Sandstrand ca. 0,5 Stunden stromaufwärts von Isla Temblador, 3°04'N, 66°28'W (Karte), Bundesstaat Amazonas, Venezuela.
Etymologie
Von anthrax, griechisch für Kohle, bezieht sich auf dunkle, kohleartige Farbe. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Orinoco-Einzugsgebiet: Venezuela und Kolumbien, bewohnt mehr östliche Nebenflüsse des Orinoco (z. B. Caura umd Aro).
