Etymologie
Von istios (= Segel), vermutlich bezogen auf die "sehr hohen" Rücken- und Afterflossen von Istiblennius muelleri; Blennius, Blenny, abgeleitet von blennos (= Schleim), bezogen auf den schuppenlosen Körper der Blenniiden (Schleimfische). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
