Etymologie
Ilýs (= gr. für Schlamm), bezieht sich vermutlich auf den weichen oder schlammigen Boden, dem Lebensraum von Ilyophis brunneus; óphis (= gr. für Schlange), in Anlehnung an die schlangenartige Form eines Aals. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
