Typusfundort: In der Nähe von Kap Povorotnyi, Bucht von Peter dem Großen, Russland, Japanisches Meer, Tiefe 812-875 Fuß (= 116-125 russische Faden).
Etymologie
Cataühractus (= gepanzert), was sich auf den Körper bezieht, der mit einer Reihe von Knochenplatten entlang der Seitenlinie und dem Rückenflossenansatz "definitiv gepanzert" ist. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Nordwestlicher Pazifik.
