Etymologie
Das spezifische Epitheton narungga ehrt einen Stamm indigener Australier, die Narungga (auch als Narangga bekannt), dessen traditionelles Land auf der gesamten Yorke-Halbinsel liegt, von nahe Port Wakefield im Osten bis nach Port Broughton im Westen und bis zur Südspitze der Halbinsel.
Verbreitung
Histiophryne narungga ist vom Cape Cuvier in Westaustralien und im Süden und Osten entlang des Leeuwin-Stroms bis zur Kangaroo Island und Aldinga Beach in Südaustralien verbreitet, mit dem Zentrum des Hauptvorkommens im Spencer Gulf und Gulf St Vincent an der Küste der Yorke Halbinsel, Süd-Australien. Die Erfassungstiefen, die für 24 Exemplare gemacht wurden, liegen zwischen 3 und 130 m, aber 83% dieser Exemplare wurden in weniger als 20 m und 50% in weniger als 10 m gesammelt. Die durchschnittliche Tiefe aller bekannten Fänge beträgt 13 m.
