Etymologie nicht erklärt, vielleicht von halios (= aus dem Meer), oder vielleicht in irgendeiner Weise auf Halicampus Kaup 1856 anspielend (so oder so ist dies ein profaner Name für solch einen "merkwürdigen" Fisch, um Grays Adjektiv zu verwenden); ichthys (= Fisch).
