Typusfundort: Vor den Galápagos-Inseln, 0°36'N, 86°46'W (Karte), Albatross-Station 3400A, Tiefe 1322 Faden.
Etymologie
Tumis (= Schwellung); frons (= vorne), bezieht sich auf "beträchtlich geschwollene" Ränder am Suboperculum und vorne, besonders unter den Augen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Nur von den beiden Syntypen aus der Nähe der Galápagos-Inseln in Tiefen von 2418-2487 m bekannt.

Gefahren für diese Art: Es ist nicht bekannt, ob Halieutopsis tumifrons von einer größeren Bedrohung betroffen ist.
