Etymologie
Der spezifische Epitheton taroba bezieht sich auf Tarobá, einen Krieger, und bezieht sich auf eine Legende des Kaingang Volkes.
Verbreitung
Gymnagoophagus taroba ist im unteren Iguazú-Becken oberhalb der Iguazú-Fälle endemisch.
