Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Ichthyologen Carl L. Hubbs (1894-1979), der während seiner Sammeltätigkeit mit Stokell im Jahr 1949 auf die Besonderheit dieser Art aufmerksam gemacht hat. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Gefahren für diese Art: Die Hauptbedrohung für diese Art ist der durch die Wasserentnahme verursachte Lebensraumverlust, der als Hauptursache für den derzeitigen Populationsrückgang angesehen wird. Die besonderen Flusslebensräume und die Lage der Wassereinzugsgebiete, die diese Art bevorzugt, sind auch diejenigen, die in vielen Gebieten einem zunehmenden Druck durch Wasserentnahme ausgesetzt sind. Weitere Bedrohungen sind Landnutzungsänderungen, die zu einer zunehmenden Sedimentation der Zwischenräume im Flusssubstrat führen, sowie künstliche Wanderhindernisse, die in vielen Teilen des Verbreitungsgebiets dieser Art vorhanden sind.
