Typusfundort: Waiomio Bach, in einem Steinbruch etwa 5 Kilometer südlich von Kawakawa, Northland, Neuseeland.
Etymologie
Cotidianus (= lateinisch für normal oder gewöhnlich), in Anlehnung an den volkstümlichen Namen "Gewöhnlicher Bully". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Status: Stand 10.05.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die Lebensräume werden wahrscheinlich durch Wasserentnahme, landwirtschaftliche Entwicklung und Landnutzungsänderungen beeinträchtigt, und diese Art ist auch ein wichtiges Beutetier für eingeführte Salmoniden, insbesondere Bachforellen (Salmo trutta). G. cotidanus ist tolerant gegenüber stark eutrophierten Bedingungen, und da sie in einer Reihe von großen Gewässern und einer Vielzahl von Lebensräumen vorkommt, wird sie durch diese Prozesse nicht als wesentlich gefährdet angesehen.
