Typusfundort: Thailand, Provinz Tak, Mae Nam Moei in der Umgebung von Ban Wa Le, 16.290°N, 98.706°E (Karte).

Etymologie

Prionotos (= "wie eine Säge gemacht" oder "gezackt"), bezieht sich auf den gezackten Rückenstachel, der ein wichtiges diagnostisches Merkmal dieser Art ist.

Verbreitung

Thailand: Flüsse Nam Mae Pai, Nam Mae Yuam und Mae Nam Moei, allesamt linke Nebenflüsse des Salween im Westen Thailands und im Süden Myanmars. Es ist sehr wahrscheinlich, dass die Art auch in anderen Nebenflüssen des Salween am linken und rechten Ufer im selben Gebiet vorkommt.
