Typusfundort: Bach Nierolay, Bhavani River, am Fuße der Nilgiri Hills, Distrikt Nilgiri, Tamil Nadu, Indien.
Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Zoologen und Anthropologen Thomas Nelson Annandale (1876-1924), Direktor des Indischen Museums (Kalkutta), der das Typusexemplar sammelte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Nepal, Indien, Myanmar (?) und China.

Status: Stand 29.3.2024:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es liegen keine genauen Informationen über die Bedrohung von Glyptothorax annandalei vor. Thomas et al. (2002), Dahanukar et al. (2004) und Raghavan et al. (2008) haben diese Art als gefährdet eingestuft, ohne jedoch eine Begründung zu liefern. Der Lebensraum dieses Fisches könnte durch Vergiftung, Staudämme, wahllose Abholzung und anschließende Umwandlung von Waldflächen in landwirtschaftliche Plantagen stark bedroht sein. Ein möglicher Weg, wie sich Staudämme auf die Arten auswirken können, ist die Unterbrechung des kontinuierlichen Wasserflusses, wodurch das Gebiet stromabwärts des Staudamms für die Fische unwirtlich wird.
