Etymologie
Benannt nach den Ureinwohnern, die Artefakte (Botoques) an Ohren und Lippen tragen; Diese Indianer waren die Ureinwohner großer Ausdehnungen der Floresta Atlântica, einschließlich der Gebiete entlang des Rio Mucuri-Tals und im äußersten Westen des Rio Doce (Minas Gerais, Brasilien), wo dieser Wels vorkommt.
