Typusfundort: Salomon Atoll, Chagos Archipel, 5°21'18"S, 72°12'58"E (Karte), 3–13 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Cometes (= ein Komet), ein Hinweis auf den kräftigen weißen Streifen entlang der Rückenmittellinie, der an den Schweif eines reisenden Kometen am Nachthimmel erinnert.
Verbreitung
Indischer Ozean (Seychellen und Chagos-Archipel) und westlicher Pazifik (Queensland, Australien und Kiribati).
