Typusfundort: Mkuzi River, Zululand, Kwa-Zulu-Natal, South Africa.
Etymologie
Von brevis (= kurz); analis (= Anus oder Afterflosse); bezieht sich auf die kleinere Anzahl von Afterflossenstrahlen (14 statt 18-20) unter den bekannten Neobola-Arten (die Gattung, in der die Art zu jeder Zeit beschrieben worden war). (Übersetzt aus The ETYFish Project)

Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Mocambique: Limpopo River, Incomati River, Pongolo River, St Lucia system, Mkhuze River.
