Ost-Pazifik: Golf von Kalifornien bis Ecuador.

Status: Stand 23.10.2018:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Für diese Art sind keine größeren Gefahren bekannt. Aufgrund seiner prächtigen Färbung wird sie jedoch für den Zierfischhandel gesammelt, was in einigen Gebieten eine lokale Bedrohung darstellen könnte.
