Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Karsten E. Hartel (geb. 1944), Kurator der Fischsammlung am Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) in Harvard, für sein Interesse an Tiefseefischen und für seine engagierten Dienste für Ichthyologen in aller Welt als Leiter der MCZ-Fischsammlung.
