Etymologie
Di- (= zwei); schistos (= geteilt); odus (= Zahn), Anspielung nicht erklärt (Gill sagt, Zähne sind tri-, nicht bicuspid); Bleeker (1877) sagte, Gill stütze den Namen auf eine „Fehlinterpretation des Gebisses“ von Dischistodus fasciatus (der Typusart). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
