Etymologie
Tautonym mit Anthias diagramma Bloch 1792 (= Diagramma pictum), das auf einem falsch identifizierten Perca diagramma (jetzt Plectorhinchus diagrammus) von Linnaeus 1758 basierte, jedoch als eigenständige Beschreibung einer neuen Art behandelt wird, da eine gut etablierte Gattung in der Literatur darauf basiert; die Etymologie von Linnaeus' ursprünglicher Verwendung von diagramma ist ungewiss, vielleicht bedeutet es "durch Linien markierte Figur" oder "geteilte Linien", auf jeden Fall bezieht es sich fast sicher auf "unregelmäßige gelbe Längslinien" (Übersetzung) von subadulten Plectorhinchus diagrammus, wie von Gronovius 1754 beschrieben, den Linnaeus zitierte [wird von einigen Ichthyologen als jüngeres Synonym innerhalb von Plectorhinchus behandelt].
