Etymologie
Thoros (= der "männliche Samen"); opsis (= ähnlich), bezieht sich auf das spermienähnliche Aussehen des Körpers, wenn man ihn von oben betrachtet (breiter Kopf und schmaler, verkürzter Körper mit einer langen, Schwanzflosse hinten). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westatlantik: Küste von Surinam bis zur Mündung des Amazonas, Brasilien, nördliches Südamerika.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 10.7.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Keine größeren Gefahren bekannt.
