Etymologie
Plagio (= schräg); taenia (= Band), bezieht sich auf sechs schräge bläulich-violette Bänder unter der Haut an den Seiten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer, Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Südafrika, Madagaskar und Mauritius (Maskarenen), östlich bis zu den Marshallinseln, Tonga und Samoa, nördlich bis zu den Ryukyu-Inseln (südliches Japan) und südlich bis Westaustralien und Queensland (Australien).

Status: Stand 27.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Obwohl sie ein beliebter Sportfisch ist und mit Haken und Leinen, mit Grundschleppnetzen, verschiedenen Arten von handwerklichen Fanggeräten und wahrscheinlich auch mit Speeren gefangen wird, wurde bisher kein Rückgang der Populationen infolge dieser Nutzung beobachtet oder vermutet.
