Etymologie
Poly (= viele); stictus (= Fleck), bezieht sich auf die Längsreihe kleiner dunkler Flecken an den Körperseiten und auf den Strahlen der Rückenflosse. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Einzugsgebiet des Rio Paraguay: Argentinien, Brasilien, Paraguay und Bolivien.
